EQ Psychology is a dedicated team of accredited psychologists, with comprehensive clinical expertise in treating a wide range of mental health issues. Manager, Elena Hey, founded the practice in Port Stephens in 2009, after recognising a need for qualified psychological services in the local area. The practice has operated from Nelson Plaza Clinic since its opening in 2010, and now has a second location at the Port Macquarie Super Clinic which opened in October 2014. The EQ team works alongside an experienced team of GP’s and other allied health providers, where we pride ourselves on providing holistic care which is second to none in improving the health and wellbeing of clients.

Principal psychologist, Elena Hey, has extensive experience in treating a wide range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, stress, grief / loss issues, and Post-traumatic Stress disorder. Elena has worked as a counsellor / psychologist in both the private and public health sectors for the past 9 years, and also has extensive experience as an educator. Elena is also qualified in the provision of forensic mental health services, with experience in providing assessment and treatment of people with a mental disorder and a history of criminal offending, or those who are at risk of offending.
With 20 years experience working with adolescents and young adults, Elena specialises in assessing and treating young people for mental health issues such as adjustment disorders, anger management issues, Autism Spectrum Disorder, behaviour difficulties, eating disorders, and social / emotional problems. Elena has experience in working with clients from a range of social and cultural backgrounds, including indigenous clients. Elena utilises client-centered, evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness approaches, Positive Psychology, and Solution Focused Therapy.
Elena is an accredited NSW WorkCover service provider and is also registered with HiCaps.

Jennifer has worked as a psychologist for close to 20 years in a variety of settings, with over 10 years experience in remote and regional areas of Central Australia, Regional and Outback NSW and Regional Victoria.
Jennifer has worked in cancer and palliative care services for much of her career and has extensive experience working with people dealing with chronic illness as well as those facing death, as well as supporting their families. Jennifer also works with people facing adjustment, including survivorship issues after cancer treatments and pain management as well as those with anxiety, depression, trauma (including sexual assault) and PTSD. Grief and loss for those with adjustment issues and also bereavement are major areas of interest for Jen.
Jennifer works from a holistic framework, providing appropriate therapies tailored to presenting need. She is trained in the areas of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy, along with Narrative Therapy and Mindfulness approaches.

Psychologist, Smita Arora, has several years clinical practise in providing psychological intervention to children and families, adults and seniors. She specialises in the assessment (diagnostic, cognitive, behavioural, SLD, personality and neuropsychology) for both children and adults.
Smita has extensive experience in the treatment of anxiety, depression, mood disorders, adjustment disorders, Borderline Personality Disorder, work-related stress, and relationship difficulties.
In particular, Smita has a passion for early intervention. She enjoys educating and supporting new parents with the social and emotional tasks of navigating parent-child relationships, as well as assisting children in the management of worry and anxiety.
Smita completed a M. Phil. Clinical Psychology, investigating the role of childhood parental bonding in the young adult’s life. She is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, and she has a preference for working with CBT and ACT approaches.
Smita strives to maintain strong and collaborative therapeutic relationships with her clients, and empowers her clients to become experts in managing and overcoming their difficulties.
